Investing In Talent - Aberdeen FC Youth Academy

Investing in talent

We’ve always championed personal development here at RAM Tubulars. Seeing the potential in someone at the interview stage and then nurturing that potential so that they can be the best they can be is hugely rewarding for us. It has made our business stronger and more resilient. For as long as RAM Tubulars has been in existence, so too has our desire to apply this progressive approach to develop local sporting talent. For our founder, managing director, and lifelong Aberdeen F.C fan, Jim Stewart, putting something back into his beloved club has always been a priority.

Jim’s forward-thinking approach naturally led him to focus on the teams of tomorrow. His goal: to help Aberdeen F.C invest in a new generation of players that would take the club to greater successes once again. Having supported the club’s Bobby Clark Youth Academy since 2020, we boosted our sponsorship investment in May 2022 and became the academy’s official partner as part of an initial three-year deal.

For Jim, this is about so much more than just an advertising opportunity. It is a move rooted in his passion for Aberdeen F.C and supporting the regional sporting stars of the future. This support over the years has enabled the club to direct more time and resources into the development of young players over a longer period – ensuring they can fulfill their full potential. This springboard to success has already led to some notable achievements and developments: from silverware being lifted in Europe by the Youth Academy team and the signing of one of its graduates, Calvin Ramsay, to Liverpool for a club-record fee of £6.5m; to the crowd-pleasing mascot phenomenon that is Robbie the Ram.

The Youth Academy continues to be a conveyor belt of fresh talent that has reinvigorated the first team on countless occasions. We’re delighted to see that our continuing sponsorship and financial support is generating such positive results. And as Jim points out, this is an ongoing journey of development and partnership for both businesses, with exciting times ahead as more players make the transition from the academy into the first team: “This is a real passion for me, and I’m really proud to see our investment paying off in the form of so much promising sporting talent on our doorstep. Aberdeen Football Club has such a rich history, and we’re committed to being a part of that for many years to come. Whether it’s the oilfield or the playing field, we want people to perform to the best of their ability and give them all the tools necessary to achieve that.”
