The 16-acre onshore decommissioning and metal recycling site at Birchwood in Aberdeenshire is an all-in-one processing facility with the capacity to process over 130,000 tonnes of waste per year. The only site of its kind in the UK bolsters RAM Tubulars’ commitment to providing a full lifecycle service, having served the oil & gas industry for over 30 years.
““The launch of RAM Decom is the natural next step following on from the extensive work done over the last three decades to become the trusted partner of choice for production tubulars, and metal recycling. The addition of our decommissioning service offering will allow us to support the operators’ ongoing efforts to decommission their assets in the most cost-effective manner," says Mark Hill, Decommissioning Lead at RAM Decom.
The facility benefits from an on-site industrial weighbridge, pipe washing facility and storage area, and a heavy reinforced impermeable concrete yard complete with a closed loop drainage system. Our NORM Handling Permit allows for our in-house Radiation Protection Supervisors to handle hazardous and contaminated materials allowing RAM Decom to provide a full turnkey Service.
“With a renowned reputation for making the most of material that others see as scrap, the development of our Birchwood site into a purpose-built decommissioning facility will enable us to hit our target of recycling or reusing at least 98% of the material that passes through us. At a time when sustainability and circular economies are key to the survival of businesses and our planet, I’m proud to say that we’re leading by example in this regard,” says Managing Director of RAM Tubulars, Jim Stewart.
The Offshore Decommissioning Conference runs from the 20th - 22nd November at the Fairmont Hotel in St Andrews, with the focus of this year’s event being how to deliver decommissioning effectively, efficiently and safely through collaboration.
